Perform - Teach - Create
I use my violin and voice to conjure things: a story, a memory, a place, an idea. I make music collaboratively, combining old and new sounds, bringing together varied traditions. As a performer, I’ve been called 'fearless,' and I like to help other people reach this fearlessness, by helping listeners and players of all ages to create their own new music. As an improviser with a background in Anthropology and a commitment to social justice, I’m also a musical translator. My work is about finding connections between people and music, and finding ways to demystify those sounds by getting listeners and players involved in them: whether it's North Indian music, Free improvisation, or Classical music.
“Rachel is a beast.” - Tony Woodcock, past President of New England Conservatory
“Rachel has that ‘thing' -- spirit, energy, love. She has great talent but combined with heart and enthusiasm.” - Ned Boyer, musician
"I had the pleasure of attending one of Rachel's performances. In addition to her music being beautiful to listen to, the program was varied, interesting, and entertaining. She clearly spent a lot of effort to tailor her program to her audience, and she was delightful, warm, and inviting….anyone who has the privilege of hearing her is in for a big treat!" -Carol Ehrlich, audience member
"I am excitedfor the lesson time we spend together and I see improvements every week… Rachel’s patience and attention to detail brings fiddle music to life for me." - John DeBaie, student
